A fun, hands-on workshop where children transform invasive plants and cotton often seen as waste into creative handmade sheets and learn sustainability
Bydel

This hands-on workshop invites children to explore the transformation of invasive plants found in the Copenhagen area—into unique handmade paper.

By turning what is typically considered waste into a valuable resource, the workshop promotes sustainability, material innovation, and ecological awareness.

Children will learn to process plants, cotton rags and recycled paper collected from the recycling center, discovering traditional papermaking techniques such as cutting, soaking, blending, forming, pressing, and drying.

This workshop teaches kids about biodiversity and the impact of invasive plants, why they’re called invasive, and how to transform them and recycled materials into creative handmade sheets—highlighting the difference between artisanal and industrial paper.

Since the workshop is held in english, an additional focus is placed on language development, with participants practicing English vocabulary and fluency in a practical context. Terms like “cut,” “soak,” and “blend” are introduced and reinforced through active engagement, enhancing confidence and communication skills.

Learning Objectives:

  • Reflect on the value of invasive and waste materials as renewable resources.
  • Develop practical skills to transform invasive plants and recycled cotton fabric into handmade sheets.
  • Explore creativity through papermaking techniques and material experimentation.
  • Enhance English language skills through contextual, hands-on learning.
