Imagine, Sketch and Make a stool with pine offcuts

This hands-on workshop invites children to see everyday waste in a new light—by turning discarded wood into a fully functional stool.
From the first sketch to the final screw, children will design, build, and proudly take part in creating something useful, using nothing but imagination, teamwork, and a few simple tools.
The material for the stools comes from The Upcycl, a platform that gives new life to industrial offcuts. In this workshop, students will work with pine floorboards that are usually thrown away because of little imperfections. But with a bit of creativity, those flaws become features—and waste becomes a resource.
The process starts with drawing and dreaming: students sketch their own ideas, then come together in teams to develop a shared design.
They'll learn how to plan, measure, and build using hand saws, drills, and clamps—always with guidance and encouragement. The goal isn’t perfection, but making something real, with their own hands, from scratch.
Because the workshop is held in English, it’s also a playful way to build language skills. Words like “cut,” “mark,” “screw,” and “measure” come to life through action, helping children remember them naturally. Speaking and listening becomes part of the making—and part of the fun.
